Could you anneal it and bend it, then re-quench re-temper?

I think I probably could, so long as the twist didn't come in from the quenching process. I can't quite tell where the twist starts, which is part of why I didn't try that after I noticed it. The other part was that I had actually annealed and quenched it twice at that point, because the first time I took it out and promptly dropped it into a rain puddle, which... yea. The ax flies nicely, and assuming Reid doesn't notice the flaw when I hand it to him I am just going to call it done :) If he does notice, it will be too much to handle and I will have to fix it, and hope I don't make it twice as bad in the process. Although maybe I can get away with "I didn't want it to look like it was made in factory!"

I mean you are way ahead of me on all fronts - if I tried to do something like that the main thing that would happen is I'd accidentally burn myself.

Well, I didn't burn myself this time, but I won't have hair on my hands again until Tuesday I expect :)

Man, I do kind of wish I had video of me dropping that bloody ax head into the puddle right after taking it out of the oil. I was so careful to get just the front 3/4 of the blade and the hammer head in the oil so the rest could cool and stay flexible, then ... splash, a lot of steam, and a lot less puddle. I don't remember a lot of the next 3-5 seconds, but it was probably funny from an outside perspective.

Almost exactly 1 month now. The forge in the review is the first one I've had, and the knife I made after is the first one I made. I had the anvil and other tools for leather work and stuff, although I am on the look out for a new one. The softer cast iron Harbor Freight anvil is ok for peening rivets and all, but dealing with actual steel is tearing it up a bit. There is one on Amazon for ~160$ I have seen some ok reviews for, so I might check that out, and if I do I will write it up here.

But yea, new to blacksmithing, just always wanted to try it. When your name is Hammer it tends to call to you a bit :)

Congratulations on the new place! Space is definitely underrated :D
